Hello, I’m Austyn! I like to do many things – travel, surf, be in the great outdoors – but most of all I like to make art. I’ve been making art since I was very small and from all of my experience, I’ve learned that sharing art is just as important as making it.
I studied Fine Art at the University of Central Florida. I always knew I liked making things but I struggled with what message I was going to share with the world. After years of making work and talking about it with my peers, I realized my “Why” behind art-making:
“Make art to make sense.”
I make art to make sense of my world, my surroundings, and my thoughts. Art gives me a tangible outlet to process the intangible. It is the only thing that can relieve my anxious mind (although I do believe anxiety is a gift to promote action.) Art also acts as a facilitator for human connection. It allows people to open up about their own experiences and thoughts as they view a piece.
Abstract Art
Abstract art was a mystery to me when I was younger – I didn’t understand the “point.” Now I think it is such a free form of expression and it is what I focus on the most! I love experiencing people’s reactions and what they bring to the piece, opening up about what it reminds them of or how it makes them feel.
Strange times…
I am writing this during the COVID-19 pandemic isolation. I’ve been selling my art solely in person at craft shows and boutiques for the last two years and this made me realize how important it is to have an online channel to share and connect with people.
I’m excited to create a space where the stories behind my pieces can live!
